Phytoblast your fruits and veggies with a 3 horse power Blender

June 12, 2011

God said “Let there be light”, and so it was into being. And from that light grew the garden from which we have thrived on for years. Those fruits in veggies, herbs, and mushrooms that were not mistake but rather a blessing from our true source above.

Little do we know the healing that each contains. And while as a society we enjoy in the art of eating, the trend in the last 30 years is  to grab what is quick and cheap.  How else will we get all our work done?  While the 99 cent menu is enticing in such an economic decline, it’s after effects are suggesting a much greater cost to our health down the road.  I gently suggest an alternative that will only take 2 minutes (which is quicker than driving through a “drive -thru” ) and after the initial investment cheaper for you too.  We forget that not only should we invest in our stock portfolios for retirement, we should consider our body portfolio as well!

The phyto-chemicals found in all these super fruits and veggies and their counterpart sidekicks-the herbs and mushrooms are meant to help the body reverse even the most horrendous of diseases.  They truly have the magic keys to unlock the bodies endocrine system. These phyto-chemicals are stealth and sneaky, however, and hide in the cellulose fiber of seeds, skins, pulp, stems. Of course no one would find them there, since to most of us those are the parts you discard.

By chance, on an afternoon when you have nothing else to do, buy a  beautiful pineapple,  gently pull back and out her crown of leaves and you will find a hidden jewel beneath.   A tiny stem which in size does not look like much but when blended in to a micron level can help to reverse cancer.  This golden gem is rich in antioxidants!   Another little known cancer crime fighter is the white part of a grapefruit.  It is extremely high in phyto-chemicals.  But a normal blender, unfortunately can’t unlock her power, only a 3 horse power blender can.   And a Juicer is a waste of time since it throws away all the great parts as well.  God intended us to eat these, since that is where all the phyto-chemicals live.

I know you are thinking…”oh yeah I got a smoothie at the local fast food restaurant-it’s part of the get fit meal selection…”  N. O.  That my friend is not the type of smoothie I am talking about.  And before you cringe thinking it is some pile green mush that tastes like it should be living in some compost pile-I’m not referring to that either. Healthy smoothies have come a long way. Not only can they help unlock the natural pharmacy in your body, smoothies can taste good too!

Over 20,000 people at live seminars held by the Supreme Science Qi Gong Foundation, have been gulping them down over the course of the past decade.  There are even recipes to help reverse MS, Asthma, Type 2 Diabetes, Arteriosclerosis, lose significant weight, and even ease the symptoms for Autism in kids, with cilantro being the secret weapon! Since it is known to take heavy metals out of their systems naturally. Not to say you should stop eating.  The smoothies could count for a descent fraction of an overall lifestyle change though. And it just uses foods found in your local farmer’s market (which I am a big fan of supporting) or grocery store. Just remember to buy organic when you can.

The cost of blenders are very high however, and the initial investment in a Blendtec or Vitamix is around 400-700 bucks depending on the quality you choose to get.  That is what inhibited me for years from trying it.  I did research, as I always do, and  found what I believe and to be just as superior of a blender that has 3 horse power enough to blend the Avocado seed- which is known to have the most soluble  fiber of any food (that means a clean sweep for your arteries!) and it has tons of phyto-chemicals for phase -2 enzymes.

I can tell you that I love this blender!   Personally, I’ve shared many a healthy smoothie in which people could not tell what veggies, fruits, or herbs where in it but they loved it.

Ginger-Not Just A Pretty Garnish On Our Sushi Plates

April 21, 2011

philippineherbalmedicine.org

Ginger root has been used for almost two thousand years to treat different ailments. Ginger is thought to have originated on the Indian subcontinent. The ancient Greeks and Romans were aware of the benefits of the ginger root, and used it both in cooking and for medicinal purposes. Ginger was commonly taken as a remedy for fever, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, indigestion and nausea.  But it’s remedies have been used through out the centuries all over the world.  We know it is a staple in Asian culinary delights but little people know that even  it was recorded that Henry VIII instructed the mayor of London to use ginger as a remedy for the Bubonic Plague, which swept Europe during the Middle Ages.

What about Ginger makes it so important?

Well it comes down to the discussion many experts are having about the correlation between inflammation of the internal organs and blood vessels to most diseases.  This is when our hard bodied Super hero herb comes to the rescue.  Ginger along with it’s Side Kick Turmeric are the Anti-inflammatory herbs. According to quite a few researchers Ginger exhibits properties that help reduction of inflammation.  here are just a few examples:

Research by T. Therkleson, published in the October 2010 issue of the “Journal of Advanced Nursing,” found that applying a ginger compress to affected areas improved joint mobility and increased suppleness.

Research suggests ginger root inhibits production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are involved in pain and inflammation. In an uncontrolled 1992 Danish study, 56 patients who had either RA, OA or muscular discomfort took powdered ginger. All of those with musculoskeletal pain and three-fourths of those with OA or RA reported varying degrees of pain relief and no side effects, even among those who took the ginger for more than two years.

In another Clinical study of  Rheumatoid Arthritis patients and Osteoarthritis patients who starting adding ginger to their diets, researchers found that 75% of the patients experienced relief of pain and swelling.

This aromatic Ginger also has a history of having Anti-Cancer properties and immune system boosters.  Two more reasons to have it in your diet every day.

Disclaimer :

Do not use either herb if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have a bleeding disorder. Avoid ginger if you have diabetes or a heart condition.

Ginger  may interact with other drugs that you may be taking. For example, ginger should not be used alongside anti-hypertensive drugs.

Here is a special yet very easy recipe that a dear friend and spiritual mentor taught me that would be an excellent way to keep satisfied from hunger and warms the soul while getting this wonderful herb in your diet everyday.  Mind you when it is cold out this will warm you up, as summer approaches you may want to just add a slice of it (about the size down to the first knuckle on your thumb) to your cold fruit smoothies since it is a warming food.
Eli’s Heart Warming Oatmeal
Organic Steal cut Oatmeal (it is way better than the instant for you but if you don’t have the time use Organic instant pack)
Shredded Ginger to taste
Pinch of Cinnamon
Pinch of Nutmeg
Coconut milk enough to saturate it without creating a soup.
Agave Nectar

A is Avocado-B is for Big Seed

April 8, 2011

Avocado comes in at first place for the Super hero veggie that packs the most punch.

pelitita.com

Native to Central America this warrior has been cultivated for thousands of years.  Crowned with the title of being one of the most complete foods, it is even used in parts of the world to ween babies from mother’s milk.  Beneath it’s protective cape of skin lies an soft guy whose healing power has sometimes gone without praise. For instance, id you know it contains  60% more potassium than a banana?  Also rich in vitamin A. The pulp is both anti-fungal and antibacterial and was traditionally used to help heal skin conditions,   gum infections (pyorrhea), and arthritis. Avocado oil is used in combination with B12 for psoriasis. The tricky part is that Hass Avocados are 20% fat.  To some people losing weight, that can be scary.  But contrary to what some might think, the avocado is recommended for losing weight.  Since this dense veggie is a good saturated fat that your body needs, it sends a signal to the little guys in charge of holding  your fat hostage, and lets them know it  is time to release them.

Avocados are credited with being the most important for Liver detoxification (Glutathione). And they do double duty fighting cholesterol with proven results of lowering it!

grow.ars-informatica.ca

But the most important aspect of this Super Hero veggie lies deep beneath his skin, past the yummy middle and into his  “heart”.  The seed is the part most of us dis-guard, but just like most things on earth, our True Source has made a wonderful reason for it.  For this living seed has the most soluble fiber of any food on earth.  That’s right -step over Oatmeal.  Soluble fiber gets plaque out of the arteries.  When broken down (with a 3 horse power blender ONLY-it will ruin your regular blender) into a micron level in a smoothie you can’t taste it but it is going to work immediately help clear the path of nasty plaque in your arteries.  There has even been studies of people that use this seed along with some key foods to help reverse “irreversible” arteriosclerosis.

Precaution: Do not eat avocados or take any products containing avocados if you are using the antidepressant mono-amine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI).

Want to know how to locate this Mega Green Super Hero and what to do with it after you’ve got him?

1. Select heavy, unblemished fruit. I prefer the Organic variety but in this case it is not necessary if you’re on a tight budget since the outer protective layer is shielding the goodness inside from most pesticides.  Most markets will sell unripe and hard avocados. So after you bought one, allow it to ripe between 3 to 6 days.

2. If avocado yield slightly to gentle pressure, it’s ready to be eaten

3. If you need to speed up the ripening process, place avocados in a paper bag with apple or banana. Never put avocado in a fridge since it will make the ripening process significantly slower.

Mustard Seed Detox Muscle Soak

March 16, 2011

Mustard Seed is a a special little seed and not only for those ballpark franks on hot summer days…

In ancient Greece, mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras used and wrote about mustard seeds to treat body pain.  Mustard seed products are a constant source of bio-energy that radiates into muscles, heats them up and relaxes them. We wake up rested, full of energy, and vitality, and we are less prone to illnesses.

Mustard Seeds have been used as a folk medicine treatment since ancient times in Egypt, Greece, and Asia. Hippocrates advised others to use them both externally and internally.  Mustard seeds are pointed out in the Bible several times, exemplifying the tiny seed that has such strength and power.

After  a Neuromuscular Therapy session I recommend and external form of this seed called “Detox Muscle Soak”.  This Organic Mustard seed powder rests in a nest of other key Organic essential oils including Spearmint, Eucalyptus, Sweet Orange oil, Peppermint Oil, Rosemary oil, Thyme oil, and Wintergreen Oil. They are combined with love into a glass airtight mason jar.  I  recommend this bath to anyone who can take really hot baths.  We are talking the hottest water you can stand.  I usually have to get in first and let the bath water fill up around me then place the Detox Muscle Soak in. Unfortunately it is not for kids,  or elderly with Diabetes, or heart issues.  But if you have sinus problems, back or neck pain, sore or tired muscles and just need a good night’s rest, this is a great start!  I pair it with chamomile tea or Valerian Root Tea and you will have a peaceful sleep.

If you would like to try this fabulous bath go to:
Please fill out the question box and I will try to accommodate you at my earliest convenience.

Moringa-Great for you from the Womb-To Baby Boom

March 4, 2011

I have to give my dear friend, the beautiful  Tatiana an huge shout out on this one!  She is the angel that introduced me to this Marvellous Moringa Tree.  After consulting doctors, nutritionists, and  specialists about my sons being “not on the spectrum” for their weight and height; every single one recommended  Pediasure and Carnation Instant Breakfast. I cringed at the thought of how that would put strain on one of my twins’ kidney(being that he only has one now).  Although i am sure that those beverages would work for some, they weren’t the answer for me.  So as I always do, I dove into research.  And what I found out about this tree was truly remarkable.

According a John’s Hopkin’s study:

Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the body, gets particular attention for its role in keeping bones strong. Malunggay (Moringa”s scientific name) contains 17 times the calcium content in milk. Fractures reported among children and young adults are on the rise due to calcium deficiency. It is also a key mineral needed for muscular contractions, beating of the heart, is involved in proper function of hormones and neurotransmitters in the brain. Not to mention wound healing as well. Calcium in the blood helps maintain heart rhythm, and promotes proper bloody clotting and muscular function.

Magnesium is important to 300 bodily functions, including the muscles, nerves and heart. It boosts your immune system and strengthens bones. Iron is an oxygen-carrying component of blood. Children need iron for expanding blood volume which is accompanied during periods of rapid growth. Iron is a common concern for babies because several factors can lead to its deficiency in infants. Iron content of Malunggay is 25 times of iron in spinach.

When children do not eat enough fruits and vegetables they run the risk of having low intakes of vitamins A and C. B Complex Vitamins (thiamin, niacin, riboflavin and other B vitamins) come from a variety of foods, including grain products, meat and meat substitutes and dairy products.

When appetites slow down and children do not seem to be eating nutritiously, concerned parents consider using a vitamin-mineral supplement. Here comes the importance of Malunggay (Moringa). It is one of the richest plant sources of Vitamins.

Malunggay has Vitamin A (Beta Carotene), Vitamin B1 (Thiamine), Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin), Vitamin B6 Pyrodixine), Vitamin B7 (Biotin), Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), Vitamin D (Cholecalciferol), Vitamin E (Tocopherol) and Vitamin K. The list of Minerals present in this fast growing tree is enormous!  A few of the main minerals include Calcium, Copper, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese and Zinc. Malunggay has 17 times more Calcium than that of milk, Malunggay, with 25 times more Iron than that of Spinach. Malunggay with 15 times the potassium in Banana assists in the regulation of the acid-base and water balance in the blood and the body tissues. It assists in protein synthesis from amino acids and in carbohydrate metabolism.

It is safe enough for lactating mothers and infants who have not had the benefits of breast milk.  In fact it is being used all across the world as an effective weapon for fighting malnutrition.

But where can you get it?  I can help you with that.   since not all Moringa is the same, and it depends on the nutrient rich soil that it grows in.  You are not likely to find the quality of this nutrient rich tree anywhere in Georgia clay. I found the volcanic soil Nicaragua being one of the most nutrient rich bases to  produce organic Moringa.  Please contact www.atlantabodyretreat.com for local distributors in the GA area of Moringa.

What do Chocolate and Febuary have in common?-Both Involve Matters of the Heart!

February 23, 2011

The chocolate that we eat or use in desserts is the product of a long and delicate process that starts with the cacao tree.  The benefit ends with our heart.  And while chocolate is close to a lot of our hearts, we often diminnish  why we should eat this healing food from God.

Although today two thirds of the world’s cocoa bean production comes from Africa,  it has grown wild in central America since the prehistoric times.  And America is cashing in on part of that 50 billion dollar a year industry as well. Too bad Christopher Columbus discounted those beans he discovered on his way back from  his 4th trip to America.

But what is so great about our love affair with Chocolate? Chocolate is made from plants, which means it contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables. These benefits are from flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart disease.  Containing nearly 8 times the number of anti oxidants found in strawberries.  Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure through the production of nitric oxide, and balance certain hormones in the body. They also contain low amounts psychoactive substances and structurally similar to dopamine.  This could be helpful for people with Parkinson’s disease. It also is linked to serotonin levels in the brain.  And the list goes on with list goes on with uses for persistent coughs, pain from pregnancy, and even fever.

Legend even has it that Montezuma drank 50 goblets of chocolate a day! And his defeater, the Aztec Emperor,  Hernando  Cortes was quoted as saying that “…this precious drink permits man to walk for a whole day without food.”

But just like great wines not all chocolates are created equal. And just like geography effects grapes for wine production each area produces it’s own specialty of cacao beans.

Four major types of cacao are cultivated: Criollo, Forastero, Trinitario and Nacional.

More importantly what kind should we eat? Either 80% greater of Dark Chocolate (preferably fairly traded), or Raw Organic chocolate beans. These are the ones with the most healing benefits.  While white chocolate is popular here in the US, this is not therapeutic-and is even debated to be “chocolate”.

You may find the Raw beans at www.Food-Healing.com.  they are certified organic and free of microbes.

As far as the squares in candy form, you can find them just about anywhere but one place that has exceptionally healthy chocolate and great tasting too, is www.chocolate dame.com.

EAT UP!

Garlic A Day To Keep The Flu Away!

February 23, 2011

Although vegetables are essential for a healthy diet and immune system, even more flu-fighting power can be found in 7 major super herbs.  In fact, those pretty little garnishments that rest so peacefully in our kitchen window boxes pack more phytochemicals in them than veggies do.  What are phytochemicals you may ask?

Phyto means plant in Greek.

They are natural antibiotics produced by plants that are under attack. Phytochemicals produced in plants act as toxins to the attacking organism. When a plant cell recognizes particles from damaged cells or particles from the pathogen, the plant launches its defense mechanisms. ..But what do they mean for us?

Phytochemical substances found in fruits and vegetables and herbs.  Some have shown promise to protect the body against illnesses, including cancer.

Among the legion of Super Hero Herbs, garlic is one that stands out in my mind this time a year to be essential.  With all the birthday parties, school germs, airplane rides to visit loved ones and schizophrenic weather, this beautiful bud of cloves was one of God’s best creations. It’s Anti-fungal, Anti-Viral, and Anti-biotic proprieties are made in such a way that it knows only to target the bad bacteria in our bodies and not the good.

Have high blood pressure? Garlic can help that too, along with lowering Cholesterol and it thins the blood.

What about the other end of the spectrum…

Having trouble conceiving? The release of Nitrous Oxide in our bodies naturally dilates blood vessels and in return hyper boosts our sexual hormones even sperm count (Also great for this is maca root powder, and black sesame).  Garlic does just that. Know wonder why Italians have big families.

Here’s a recipe that I love from Jeff Primack who is  a Qi Gong Master and Food Based Healing Guru!

9 Clove Healing Pesto

Prep to Health Time-10 minutes.  Great as a dip or as a sauce over free range chicken, or wild caught seafood. Also pesto freezes remarkably well so make as much as you’d like!

Less Garlic=Better Love Life but is less effective for health.

9 cloves garlic, peeled
3 large stalks of basil
1/2 bag of  Organic Baby Spinach
large handful of roasted almonds (raw is also okay)
olive oil (enough to cover the blades of the blender)
sea salt (to taste)

Step 1 : Pour olive oil into blender
Step 2 : Place all other ingredients into blender, leaving almonds for last
Step 3 : Pulse a few times until ingredients are finely chopped and combined. If you want a creamier pesto, blend till content.
Step 4 : Be prepared with some breath mints for after!

Moringa- The history of Nature’s Miracle Plant

February 3, 2011

We begin our journey of the Moringa Oleifera plant in  Northern India, where it was first described around 2000 B.C. as a medicinal herb.  The oral tradition of Ayurvedic medicine in India declared that Moringa prevents 300 diseases. Moringa oil was also found in ancient Egyptian culture as protection for their skin from the ravages of desert weather.  Later, the Greeks found many healthful uses for Moringa and introduced it to the Romans.

This well traveled plant has been carried to all the tropical parts of the world, where it readily takes root.  It is commonly used for food, for medicinal purposes, and clarifying water.  It spread eastward from India to the lower parts of China, Southeast Asia and the Philippines.  From India it also spread westward to Egypt, Africa, around the Mediterranean, and finally to West Indies in America. Now that’s a full passport!

Then there is  Jamaica in 1817, a petition concerning Moringa oil was presented to the Jamaican House of Assembly.  Turns out the oil  was useful for salads and culinary purposes, and being equal to the best Florence oil as an illuminant–giving clear light without smoke.  The leaves and pods were likewise used in local recipes.

Recently, there has been a surge in Moringa’s popularity as it’s leaves are harvested fresh in India and ground into pure powder, which was then stored in air-tight containers and shipped to America.  But we have found a wonderful Organic Moringa Farm right here in California, where there is so much love and attention put into the  rich soil delicate harvesting and eco-conscious packaging. I thought it was worth mentioning “Moringa for Life” farm.

And the history keeps growing since you can try your green thumb at planting some for yourself and enjoying the fresh benefits of this miracle plant!  Every part of it is useful.  I don’t have such a green thumb, however, so I’ll stick to buying the powder.

High Nutrient Content

Gram for gram, Moringa leaves contain:

  • 7 times the vitamin C in oranges
  • 4 times the calcium in milk
  • 4 times the vitamin A in carrots
  • 2 times the protein in milk
  • 3 times the potassium in bananas
  • 3 times the iron in spinach
